The gaming laptop with the longest battery life in 2026 is the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026), which lasted 14 hours 22 minutes in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi browsing test, about twice the gaming laptop average. For less money, the HP Omen 16 with a Ryzen AI 7 350 and RTX 5060 had the longest video playback of any 2025 gaming laptop Jarrod’sTech tested: 11 hours 56 minutes. The rule that matters most: avoid laptops with Intel “HX” processors if battery life is a priority. In the published results we looked at, they lasted about half as long.

The processor matters more than the battery
We took every 2025 gaming laptop in Jarrod’sTech’s battery list (39 configurations, all tested the same way) and grouped them by processor. Jarrod’sTech plays the same 720p video on a loop with the screen at 200 nits. For gaming, it runs The Witcher 3 at 1080p medium, capped at 30 fps.
| Processor type | Laptops | Median battery | Median video playback | Range | Median gaming (30 fps) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| H-class: Intel H/V, AMD Ryzen AI | 14 | 76 Wh | about 10 h | 7 h 9 min to 11 h 56 min | about 2 h 20 min |
| HX-class: Intel Core HX, AMD Ryzen 9 HX | 25 | 90 Wh | 5 h 15 min | 3 h 55 min to 7 h 22 min | 1 h 50 min |
- HX laptops lasted about half as long, even though their batteries were bigger (a median of 90 Wh against 76 Wh). The best HX result, the Legion 5i at 7 h 22 min, is still below the H-class median.
- A bigger battery didn’t predict a longer runtime. Across all 39 laptops, battery size and video runtime were slightly negatively correlated, because the biggest batteries go into the most power-hungry HX machines.
- Watch the name. AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is a thin-and-light chip despite the “HX” in its name, and the 2025 G14 with it lasted 10 h 35 min. We counted it as H-class. The HX chips to avoid for battery life are Intel’s Core Ultra 200HX and Core i7/i9 HX, and AMD’s Ryzen 9 HX desktop-derived chips such as the 9955HX.
HX chips are faster in CPU-heavy work and usually come with the most powerful graphics cards, so they make sense if your laptop lives on a desk. If you unplug often, an H-class laptop gives up very little in games, because the graphics card does most of the work. Check the graphics power for any model in our laptop GPU power database.
The best gaming laptops for battery life in 2026
1. ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026): longest battery life
The 2026 G14 switched from AMD to Intel’s Panther Lake Core Ultra 9 386H, and battery life is the big gain. In Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi browsing test, it lasted 14 hours 22 minutes, compared with 10.5 hours for the 2025 G14 and a 7.2-hour average for gaming laptops tested over the last two years. At maximum screen brightness, that dropped to 8 hours 18 minutes. It’s still one of the few 14-inch laptops with an RTX 5070 Ti (115 W), and its new 120 Hz OLED screen reaches more than 1,000 nits in HDR. Notebookcheck rated it 90% (Notebookcheck). Good to know: the list price is $3,199 for the RTX 5070 Ti with 16GB ($3,599 with 32GB), up from $2,599 for the 2025 model. On October 8, the Amazon listings we found were from resellers asking more than that, so compare with ASUS and other stores. Our Zephyrus G14 price guide covers the configurations.

2. HP Omen 16 (Ryzen AI 7 350, RTX 5060): best value
This version of the Omen 16 pairs AMD’s efficient Ryzen AI 7 350 with an RTX 5060 and an 83 Wh battery. In Jarrod’sTech’s tests, it lasted 11 hours 56 minutes of video playback, the longest of any 2025 gaming laptop on the list, and 2 hours 46 minutes of gaming at 30 fps. The RTX 5060 runs at 107–115 W, which is near the top of what that GPU can use, so you don’t trade much game performance for the battery life. Good to know: HP also sells the Omen 16 with Intel processors, which weren’t part of this test, so check for “Ryzen AI 7 350” in the listing.

3. ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025): best 16-inch
If you want a bigger screen without losing battery life, the Intel version of the 2025 G16 combines a Core Ultra 9 285H, a 240 Hz OLED screen and a 90 Wh battery. Jarrod’sTech measured 11 hours 7 minutes of video playback and 2 hours 23 minutes of gaming with the RTX 5070 Ti model. The RTX 5070 version uses the same processor and battery, and ASUS lists its graphics at up to 110 W. On October 8, it was about $2,150 on Amazon. Good to know: the 16GB of memory is soldered, so buy the amount you need up front.

4. HP Omen Transcend 14 (2025): a cheaper 14-inch
The Omen Transcend 14 is a slim 14-inch laptop with a 3K 120 Hz OLED screen, a Core Ultra 9 285H and an RTX 5070. In Jarrod’sTech’s tests, it lasted 10 hours 50 minutes of video playback from a 71 Wh battery, and 2 hours 7 minutes of gaming. It costs about $700 less than the 2026 G14’s list price. Good to know: its RTX 5070 is limited to 60–75 W, so it’s noticeably slower in games than RTX 5070 laptops running at 100 W or more. Choose it for travel and lighter games.

5. Acer Nitro V 16S (Core 7 240H, RTX 5060): best on a budget
Most cheap gaming laptops use HX processors and small batteries. The budget LOQ 15 with a Core i7-13650HX and a 60 Wh battery lasted about 5 hours 10 minutes. The Nitro V 16S is the exception. With a Core 7 240H and a 76 Wh battery, it lasted 9 hours 9 minutes of video playback and 2 hours 14 minutes of gaming in Jarrod’sTech’s tests. Its RTX 5060 runs at 85 W, according to Acer’s official GPU power list. On October 8, it was about $1,300 on Amazon, with low stock. Good to know: 85 W is on the low side for an RTX 5060, so expect fewer frames than in 100 W+ models. See our gaming laptops under $1,200 guide for faster options at that price.

Can you game on battery?
Yes, but not for long. In Jarrod’sTech’s tests, even the best 2025 laptops lasted under 3 hours in a game, and that is with the frame rate capped at 30 fps. On battery, the graphics card also can’t draw its full power, so games run slower than when plugged in. For a long flight or a day away from a socket, plan on a couple of hours of gaming plus video and browsing for the rest. Bring the charger, or a USB-C power bank if your laptop supports USB-C charging.
How to get more battery life from a gaming laptop
- Turn the brightness down. The 2026 G14 went from 14 h 22 min to 8 h 18 min at maximum brightness in Notebookcheck’s test.
- Use the integrated graphics mode (for example ASUS “Eco” mode or NVIDIA Optimus) when you aren’t gaming, so the RTX card switches off.
- Drop the refresh rate to 60 Hz on battery. Most laptop control apps can do this automatically.
- Pick the quiet or battery power profile and turn off the keyboard lighting.
- Cap the frame rate in games. NVIDIA Battery Boost does this by default on battery.
Flying with your laptop? The FAA limits lithium-ion batteries to 100 Wh each without airline approval (FAA). That’s why the biggest laptop batteries stop just under it, at 99 to 99.9 Wh. Every laptop here is well below the limit. For the flight itself, see our best headphones for flying.
Our verdict
For the longest battery life in a gaming laptop, buy the 2026 Zephyrus G14, if you can live with its $3,199 list price. The HP Omen 16 with a Ryzen AI 7 350 gets close for far less, and the Zephyrus G16 is the pick if you want a 16-inch OLED screen. The Omen Transcend 14 is a cheaper compact option with a lower-power GPU, and the Nitro V 16S is the budget laptop that doesn’t die in five hours. Whatever you buy, check the processor name: an H-class chip roughly doubled battery life against an HX chip in the published tests.
Frequently asked questions
Which gaming laptop has the longest battery life?
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026) lasted 14 hours 22 minutes in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi browsing test. Among 2025 models, the HP Omen 16 with a Ryzen AI 7 350 had the longest video playback in Jarrod’sTech’s tests: 11 hours 56 minutes.
How long does a gaming laptop battery last while gaming?
Usually about 1.5 to 3 hours. In Jarrod’sTech’s tests of 2025 gaming laptops with a 30 fps cap, the median was about 2 hours 20 minutes for laptops with H-class processors and 1 hour 50 minutes for HX models.
Why do gaming laptops have bad battery life?
Mostly because of the processor and screen, not the battery. Many gaming laptops use desktop-derived HX processors and high-refresh screens. In our analysis of 39 tested 2025 models, HX laptops had bigger batteries but lasted about half as long as laptops with H-class processors.
Is a bigger battery always better?
No. Across 39 tested 2025 gaming laptops, battery size didn’t predict runtime, because the largest batteries go into the most power-hungry laptops. A 73 Wh laptop with an efficient processor can outlast a 99 Wh HX laptop by several hours.
Can I take a gaming laptop on a plane?
Yes. The FAA allows lithium-ion batteries up to 100 Wh without airline approval, and laptop batteries generally stop at 99.9 Wh or below. All the laptops in this guide have batteries between 71 and 90 Wh.
