Who writes our guides
Our guides are written and maintained by Adam Levell, iTech Level’s editor, who has been comparing laptops, headphones and earbuds since 2020. Adam also publishes laptop comparison videos on the iTech Level YouTube channel. Adam Levell is the pen name of iTech Level’s founder.
How we choose products
- Start with the specs. We compare manufacturer specifications that matter for the use case: GPU and cooling for gaming laptops, codecs, noise cancelling and battery life for headphones, weight and screen for portable laptops.
- Check them against independent measurements. Specs don’t tell the whole story, so we cross-check with published lab measurements and in-depth reviews from established outlets such as RTINGS and SoundGuys, and we link our sources.
- Look for patterns in owner reviews. Recurring complaints about build quality, connection drops or battery wear often show up in owner reviews before anywhere else.
- Match picks to real needs. Every guide is organised around who a product suits (“buy it if / skip it if”), not just a ranking.
- Keep it current. We update guides when new models, firmware updates or price changes shift the recommendation, and show the update date at the top.
What we don’t do
- We don’t run a testing lab and we don’t claim hands-on testing unless a guide explicitly says so.
- We don’t invent scores. We don’t publish numeric ratings or star scores; instead, each guide explains who a product suits and who should skip it.
- We don’t accept payment for placement. No brand can buy a spot in a guide.
- We don’t publish exact prices. Prices change constantly, so we give typical price ranges and our buy buttons link to Amazon for the current price.
How we make money
