The MSI Katana 15 HX is the faster laptop: every version runs its RTX graphics card at up to 115 W, with a 16-core Intel HX processor and a 75Wh battery. The Cyborg 15 is lighter and cheaper, but MSI sells it in versions that run the same RTX 5060 at anything from 55 W to 100 W. That’s the real difference, and it matters more than the names. Buy the Katana 15 HX for the most gaming performance, the Cyborg 15 MAX (100 W) if you want a lighter laptop that gives up little speed, and skip the regular Cyborg 15 B2RW, whose RTX 5060 runs at less than half of full power.

How we put this together: this comparison is based on MSI’s official specification pages, our laptop GPU power database, Notebookcheck’s RTX 5060 testing and Amazon US listings checked on October 19, 2026. It is not based on hands-on testing by iTech Level. Prices change often. See how we choose products.

Sources: MSI specification pages for the Katana 15 HX B14W, Cyborg 15 MAX C2WX, Cyborg 15 C2WX, Cyborg 15 C13WX and Cyborg 15 B2RW. Max GPU power is MSI’s “Maximum Graphics Power with Dynamic Boost”. All have 15.6-inch screens: 1920×1080 at 144Hz, and the Katana and Cyborg B2RW also come with 2560×1440 at 165Hz.

The real difference: same RTX 5060, 55 W to 115 W

NVIDIA lets laptop makers choose how much power the graphics chip gets, and MSI uses that freedom more than most. An “RTX 5060” Katana 15 HX gets up to 115 W. An “RTX 5060” Cyborg 15 B2RW, the Cyborg most often listed on Amazon US, gets 55 W: less than half, and tied with the Cyborg 17 B2RW for the lowest of all 64 RTX 5060 configurations in our GPU power database. Notebookcheck notes that the RTX 5060’s performance depends heavily on its power limit and cooling, so two laptops with the same GPU name can perform very differently.

RTX 5060 laptopMax GPU powerShare of the Katana’s
Katana 15 HX115 W100%
Cyborg 15 MAX100 W87%
Cyborg 15 C2WX70 W61%
Cyborg 15 B2RW55 W48%

Power isn’t the same as frames per second: performance doesn’t double when watts double, and cooling matters too. But the order is clear, and the gap between the 115 W Katana and a 55 W Cyborg is the kind you notice in demanding games. The Cyborg 15 MAX closes most of it.

MSI Katana 15 HX: the faster one

The Katana 15 HX sold in the US (model B14W) pairs an Intel Core i7-14650HX or i9-14900HX, both 14th Gen HX chips built for performance, with an RTX 5050, 5060 or 5070 at up to 115 W in every version. It has a bigger 75Wh battery, two memory slots for DDR5-5600, and a QHD 165Hz screen option.

  • Good for: getting the most performance from an RTX 5060 or 5070, playing plugged in at a desk, and games that also lean on the processor.
  • Skip it if: you carry your laptop every day. At 5.29 lb plus a 240 W charger, it’s the heaviest setup here.
  • Price on October 19: $1,524.99 for the RTX 5060 with a QHD screen, 16GB and 1TB, and $1,619.99 for an RTX 5070 version, both from third-party sellers on Amazon US. At those prices, the RTX 5070 costs barely more, so check both.

MSI Cyborg 15 MAX: the lighter one that keeps most of the power

The Cyborg 15 MAX (C2WX) is the Cyborg to buy. It runs the RTX 5050, 5060 or 5070 at up to 100 W, 87% of the Katana’s limit, with an Intel Core 7 240H and a 60Wh battery, at 4.41 lb with a smaller 180 W charger. Its screen is 1920×1080 at 144Hz only.

  • Good for: students and anyone who carries a gaming laptop, without giving up much speed.
  • Skip it if: you want a 1440p screen; only the Katana and the slower Cyborg B2RW offer one.
  • Price on October 19: $1,339.99 for the RTX 5060 with 16GB and 512GB, from a third-party seller on Amazon US. Make sure the listing says “Cyborg 15 MAX” or “C2WX”.

MSI Cyborg 15 B2RW: the one to skip

Most “MSI Cyborg 15 RTX 5060” listings on Amazon US are the B2RW (look for “B2RW” in the title, such as B2RWFKG). On October 19 it was $1,168 to $1,179 from third-party sellers, with a Core 5 210H, 16GB and 512GB. Its RTX 5060 runs at 55 W, so for about the same money you can get a laptop that runs the same GPU at close to full power: the Acer Nitro V 17 (RTX 5060 at 95 W) was about $1,130 on Amazon on October 13. How to tell them apart on Amazon

Listings often just say “MSI Cyborg” or “MSI Katana”. The model code in the title or the specifications tells you which one you’re looking at:

  • B14W (B14WEK, B14WFK, B14WGK): Katana 15 HX, 115 W.
  • “MAX” or C2WX with a “Cyborg 15 MAX” name: Cyborg 15 MAX, 100 W.
  • C2WX or C13WX (plain Cyborg 15): 70 W.
  • B2RW (B2RWEKG, B2RWFKG and so on): Cyborg 15 or 17, 45–60 W.

If a listing has no model code, check the processor: an i7-14650HX or i9-14900HX means a Katana 15 HX, and a Core 5 210H means a Cyborg B2RW.

Which should you buy?

  • Most gaming performance: Katana 15 HX. Full 115 W graphics, an HX processor and the biggest battery.
  • Lighter, still fast: Cyborg 15 MAX. 100 W graphics at 4.41 lb.
  • Tight budget: neither. The Cyborg B2RW’s 55 W RTX 5060 costs about as much as better-powered laptops from Acer and Lenovo; see the cheapest gaming laptops worth buying.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, the MSI Katana or the Cyborg?

The Katana 15 HX is better for gaming: every version runs its RTX graphics at up to 115 W with an Intel HX processor. The Cyborg 15 is lighter, but its RTX 5060 runs at 55 W to 100 W depending on the version. The Cyborg 15 MAX (100 W) is the Cyborg worth buying.

Is the MSI Cyborg 15 good for gaming?

It depends on the version. The Cyborg 15 MAX runs its GPU at up to 100 W and is a good lighter gaming laptop. The Cyborg 15 B2RW runs the RTX 5060 at 55 W, less than half of full power, so it’s slower than its GPU name suggests.

What’s the difference between the Cyborg 15 and the Cyborg 15 MAX?

Mainly graphics power. The Cyborg 15 MAX runs its RTX GPU at up to 100 W; the regular Cyborg 15 runs it at 70 W (C2WX and C13WX) or 45 to 60 W (B2RW). The MAX also has a bigger 180 W charger.

Why is the MSI Katana heavier than the Cyborg?

The Katana 15 HX weighs 5.29 lb against 4.41 to 4.63 lb for the Cyborg 15. It carries a bigger 75Wh battery and the cooling for an HX processor and a 115 W GPU, and it needs a 240 W charger.

Can you upgrade the memory on the Katana and the Cyborg?

The Katana 15 HX and the Cyborg 15 MAX both have two DDR5-5600 memory slots, and MSI lists a maximum of 96GB. For storage, the Katana 15 HX B14W has one M.2 SSD slot and the Cyborg 15 MAX has two.
