Video Game History
We can say for sure that the 80's were the era where GAMING had emerge as a shining STAR🌟.
At this time, arcade video games became a dominant culture force and it was almost impossible to not hear (at least once a day): Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Defender and Galaga.
Economically, it was obvious that the main reason behind this success was the big decrease in cost of computing technology combined with a great technical and design creativity in arcade games.
You can imagine that just between 1980 and 1982, the number of arcade video games reached more than its double (↗️from 4.000 to 10.000), and for the first time we started seeing those video games in supermarkets, restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations and many other retail establishments.
As result of this success, the sales of arcade video game machines attained 900 million Dollars in 1981 vs only 50 million Dollars in 1979.
Can you believe that Space Invaders had alone grossed 2 billion Dollars in quarters by 1982?😱😱😱🕹️🕹️🕹️
Many companies emerged at this era, including:
- "Taito" by producing: Space Invaders, Gun Fight and Jungle King.
- "Namco" with: Galaxian, Dig Dug, Pole position and Pac-Man.
-"Atari" with: Computer Space, Missile Command, Pong and Asteroids.
-"Nintendo" by Its Famous: Mario and Donkey Kong.
